Cats were brought to Tasmania as domestic animals by early European explorers and settlers. Before shooting a cat, first establish that it is a feral cat, rather than a domestic pet or stray cat. Cats wearing collars should not be shot. It is recommended that landholders and neighbors be notified before commencement of a feral cat shooting operation so that they can take action to protect their domestic cats.
|
Some domestic animals such as pigs and goats have become feral and programs have been implemented to reduce these wild populations. Hunters can assist in these programs by reporting any sightings of feral pigs and goats to DPIWE officers.
